SACRAMENTO RIVER WINTER-RUN CHINOOK ESU
ENDANGERED

ESA LISTING STATUS:  Listed as endangered on Jan. 4, 1994; endangered status reaffirmed on June 28, 2005NOAA Fisheries issued results of a five-year review on Aug. 15, 2011 (PDF 174KB), and concluded that this species should remain listed as endangered.

DESCRIPTION:  The ESU includes all naturally spawned populations of winter-run Chinook salmon in the Sacramento River and its tributaries in California, as well as two artificial propagation programs: winter-run Chinook from the Livingston Stone National Fish Hatchery (NFH), and winter run Chinook in a captive broodstock program maintained at Livingston Stone NFH and the University of California Bodega Marine Laboratory.

CRITICAL HABITAT STATUS: A final designation was published on June 16, 1993.

PROTECTIVE REGULATIONS: The take prohibitions of section 9 of the Endangered Species Act that apply to this ESU were published on June 28, 2005.
