SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA STEELHEAD DPS
ENDANGERED


DPS STATUS AND DESCRIPTION:   Listed as an endangered species on  Aug. 18, 1997; endangered status reaffirmed on Jan. 5, 2006. The DPS includes all naturally spawned anadromous O. mykiss (steelhead) populations below natural and manmade impassable barriers in streams from the Santa Maria River, San Luis Obispo County, California, (inclusive) to the U.S.-Mexico Border.

CRITICAL HABITAT STATUS: A final designation was published on Sept. 2, 2005 (PDF 6.2MB), with an effective date of Jan. 2, 2006.

PROTECTIVE REGULATIONS: The take prohibitions of Section 9 of the Endangered Species Act that apply to this DPS were published on June 28, 2005.
