Marine Mammal ESA Section 7 Consultation Tools

Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act (ESA) requires interagency consultation on activities that may affect any listed species. We conduct Section 7 consultations for ESA-listed species, including marine mammals that occur in Oregon and Washington. Our Protected Resources Division consults on marine mammals and turtles, and coordinates with other divisions in the region on consultations that affect salmon as well as marine mammals.

We're providing information and resources for the topics below to guide you in developing biological assessments for actions that may affect marine mammals. Contact Alison Agness if you have questions about how to use this information.

  1. Intersection of Marine Mammal Protection Act & Endangered Species Act
  2. Effects of Sound on Marine Mammals
  3. Interim Sound Threshold Guidance
  4. Defining Areas of Potential Sound Effects
  5. Evaluating Potential for Occurrence
  6. Conservation Measures
