Mar. 17, 2011: NOAA Fisheries announced that it has completed its five-year review of the ESA status of Southern Resident killer whales. Based on available information we determined that no change is needed in their status, and they remain listed as endangered. The 2011 status review (PDF 6MB) includes information on our progress to implement recovery actions.

Apr. 6, 2010: NOAA Fisheries announced a five-year review of Southern Resident killer whales under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). (PDF 46KB) A five-year review is a periodic process conducted to ensure that the listing classification of a species is accurate. The review is based on the best scientific and commercial data available at the time of the review.
