The North Puget Sound (NPS) habitat branch is located at the Sand Point Facility in Seattle. The NPS branch geographic area includes Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom, Island and San Juan counties, the Lake Washington Basin and projects for the City of Seattle.

The major workload for NPS branch includes consultation with federal agencies under the Endangered Species Act and the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act. Typical consultations include repair and construction of docks and piers in Lake Washington or marine areas, maintenance and repair of levees on major rivers, dredging of rivers and marinas, and stream restoration projects. Branch staff work actively with the City of Seattle, Snohomish County and the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National forest to provide technical assistance during project planning.

NPS staff is also involved in local and regional conservation efforts, including Puget Sound salmon recovery and local groups' development of conservation plans.
