NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service - Northwest Region
Hydropower Division
is responsible for salmon passage and survival issues associated with the major mainstem hydroelectric projects of the Columbia River system, including review of related activities under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Specific areas of emphasis include the 14 dams and reservoirs of the Federal Columbia River Power System, the five Mid-Columbia Public Utility District dams in central Washington, and the Hells Canyon ComplexExternal Non-Government Link on the Snake River in Idaho. The division provides engineering support for fish passage facilities at all dams and water diversions throughout the region. The Hydropower Division is responsible for agency input to Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) license activities. Division staff members work out of the Northwest Region’s Portland and Lacey offices.
