Groundfish Resources & Lesson Plans
Groundfish are fish that spend part or all of their life at the bottom of the ocean, like halibut or rockfish. This integrated unit highlights the importance of managing a fishery in a sustainable way. Focusing on the history of halibut fishing, the gear, and how technology has influenced the fishery. Students will explore the economic impacts and how stakeholders play a vital role in the process. These lessons align with WA State's Social Studies assessments, formerly called Classroom Based Assessments (CBAs: You Decide; Humans and the Environment; and Causes of Conflict); OR, and ID state standards as well.
