Hall of Fame History, Guidelines, Inductees

The first inductions into the NWFCC Hall of Fame (HOF) began in 1999 at the 50th anniversary of the conference. The objective of the NWFCC HOF is to recognize key people who have made a difference by contributing to the field of fish culture and/or the conference in ways that further our interest.

The idea for the NWFCC HOF was hatched during one of the conferences Executive Committee meetings. Mike Fallon (ADFG - retired) was the key person who fostered its existence for the first 5 years. Mike was also responsible for the design of the Hall of Fame plaques and certificates presented to the inductees. Kathryn Kostow's art is featured on the plaques.

Some of the Guidelines for Nomination Process

• Each year, the host agency nominates at least one person into the HOF (more than one nomination encouraged).
• Hosting agencies are encouraged to conduct a vote/poll (all staff, senior staff, or conference committee, etc) to pick candidates for nomination. The vote will occur at least three months prior to the conference.
• Anyone who has contributed to fish culture and/or the NWFCC is eligible for induction. This includes fish culturists, hatchery managers, researchers, pathologists, and administrators, etc.
• During the NWFCC, a specific time slot is set aside for the induction ceremony (usually 20-30 minutes). The HOF coordinator usually starts the ceremony with a quick summary of the HOF. Each nominee is then introduced by a sponsor/co-worker who provides a bio/career highlights to the audience.
• The nominee can say a few words
• The nominee is then presented with the commemorative certificate and the audience is encouraged to view the HOF plaques.
• HOF plaques remain with the host agency (for display) for the year. The host agency delivers the HOF plaques to next year's host agency prior to the conference.
